Did you know .........

.... that roughly where our school stands now there was once a large house known as Seacroft Hall? It stood in extensive grounds and even had an ornamental lake. The house is believed to have been built in the early 1600s. By the 19th century the Manor of Seacroft was in the hands of the Wilson family. The last member of the family Darcy Bruce Wilson died in 1936 and the house and grounds were sold to Leeds Corporation (what we now know as Leeds City Council). The estate was used briefly as a riding school but gradually the Hall fell into disrepair and it was demolished in 1954.

Parklands Girls' High School opened in 1958. There are also sports pitches and allotments on the site. All that now remains of Seacroft Hall is the Lodge (gatehouse) on York Road although this building is also now derelict.

You can find more pictures of Seacroft Hall, old Seacroft and other areas of Leeds on http://www.leodis.org/

  1. Study the photograph. Between the two trees to your left you can see the church that you pass on your way to Tesco!
